Our week in Lithuania- Part 2

Klaipeda is a third largest city in Lithuania and is located on the Baltic Sea coast. The biggest event in Klaipeda happens to be every year at the end of July, called Sea Festival. Featuring everything from parades to classical concerts to the occasional rock opera to firework displays, food, beer,  entertainment for kids and adults, sailing competitions, boat trips and displays of yachts  just a few to mention. So if you planning to visit Lithuania, book your trip to Klaipeda to witness this three day spectacular event.

Lithuanian sea sides are famous for the amber found on the shores of the Baltic Sea. What is more, Lithuania even has its own Amber Museum in Palanga, one of the biggest lithuanian sea sides. Many souvenirs made from amber are sold in Lithuania and by some people amber is even considered to be the gold of nature.

Benefits of wearing amber jewellery

Natural Baltic amber jewellery is an excellent pain relief for head, neck and throat areas, especially for congestion. Amber bracelets are highly effective for controlling the pain of rheumatism, arthritis, and aching muscles and joints. Baltic amber is also an anti-anxiety remedy that rids fatigue and weariness. If you’re over 50, you can benefit greatly from wearing Baltic amber. What could be better than natural healing you wear in the form of elegantly designed natural Baltic amber jewelry? In order to truly benefit from natural Baltic amber, you need to make certain that the amber touches some part of your body consistently. The reason for this is amber releases its healing powers into the body when it heats up from contact with our skin. The remarkable health benefits of amber are attributed to its unique ingredient, succinic acid. Scientific research on natural Baltic amber has contributed specific documentation in evidence of its healing powers. It has also documented that wearing amber against the skin is the only proper way to absorb amber’s natural healing into our bodies. For many, amber healing is a tradition that has been handed down for many generations and amber jewelry is a well guarded family heirloom.

Amber teething necklace is a traditional baby teething remedy. A natural analgesic, amber used for centuries in Europe. Wearing Baltic amber close to the skin will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs. Natural anti-inflamitory and pain relieving properties of baltic amber are perfect to soothe teething babies.
Many parents are looking for a homeopathic product that provides relief for teething symptoms. Baltic Amber teething necklaces are the ideal solution when you choose to care for your baby in a natural way.

Jaosn's Mum bought this beautiful amber necklace.

“Stora Antis” or ''Fat Duck'' in Klaipeda is a small restaurant in the very centre of an old town, on Tiltu street, 6. It slightly reminds of a shop of antiques, a little bit of museum, and also of a club for variety of music stars, politicians and businessmen. But the most important is their impressive cuisine. Book a table well in advance to avoid a disappointment.

With no reservation in place at ''Fat Duck'' we took a short walk to another famous restaurant in Klaipeda's old town. Believe me or not but its called ''Fat Cat'' - ''Storas Katinas''.  The restaurant belongs to the National Hotel ( Teatro Street. No.1)and the bar is one of the most favourite places for the city visitors and locals. A few steps away from busy Theatre Square. Cosy pub style interior reflects a very particular mood.
The Fat Cat's cuisine will offer you very delicious assortment of European and Lithuanian dishes. Wonderful cuisine, but pricey compare to other places around.

On our way to Nida!

Nida is a resort town in Lithuania, the administrative centre of Neringa.  Located on the Curonian Spit between the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea, it is the most western  point of Lithuania and Baltic Sea.
Lovely Nida is also the spit’s tourist hot spot. Remnants of a former life as an old-fashioned fishing village are plain to see in its pretty wooden cottages and harbour jammed with seafaring vessels, but these days Nida makes its money from holidaymakers and busloads of Germans exploring historical East Prussia.
Natural beauty abounds here, and white-sand beaches are only a 2km walk away through hazy pine forests. To the south is the most impressive dune on the peninsula, Parnidis Dune (Parnidžio kopa), which has steps up to its 52m summit from where there are stunning views of rippling, untouched dunes stretching into Russia.

A quick stop for a cup of tea.

The Hill of Witches (Lithuanian: Raganu Kalnas) is an outdoor wooden sculpture gallery near Juodkrante.

A number of restaurants and guest houses in Nida smoke their own fish, it's a traditional, local speciality on the Curonian Spit, so you should always be able to get freshly smoked fish, hot from the smokery, in this area.

We finished our weekend with a visit to Palanga a seaside resort town in western Lithuania, on the shore of the Baltic Sea. It is the busiest summer resort in Lithuania and has beaches of sand and sand dunes. Unfortunately for us the rain continued for the rest of the week, leaving the sea side resorts totally empty of holiday makers. Never less, we had a lovely time!
  • Palanga Pier. It is a tradition to visit the pier around sunset. This can easily be included as part of a visit to Basanavicius street.
    • Basanavicius street. The focal point of Palanga, and the highlight of any visit to Palanga, is J.Basanavicius street, running between Vytauto street and the pier. Along this street can be found most of the town's bars, restaurants, nightclubs, funfairs and souvenir shops. People-watching is a fashionable, and fascinating pastime here.
    • Botanical Garden. To the south of the city center is Palangas Botanical Garden, which is more like a forest and boosts the Amber Museum. Its a more of a quiet place, especially in winter, but is nice to stroll around. A bit further into it, there is Birute Hill a forested sand dune, where excavations showed settlements from far back in time and now has a little chapel. From there you can take a nice walk back into town via the beach.

    Love Avenue.

And here we say not Goodbye but See you till next time beautiful Lithuania!
One week is just not enough to see your beauty and visit the places, have a swim in the lakes, explore the countryside, have a little shopping in Vilnius, to stop at Trakai Castle and take a boat trip around beautiful lakes and many more things that we have missed on our visit.
    With Love Always
